Lifestyle Wedding Photography

The days of lining up for endless different combinations of traditional group photos that nobody really wants to be stood waiting around for are beginning to fizzle out - and thank Gawd for that!

Over the last few years, there has been a significant shift in the wedding industry - this shift has been towards a more authentic style of photography that captures natural and candid photos. This has become known as Lifestyle Wedding Photography and is a fresh way of looking at wedding photography; it somewhat moves away from those stiff and formal poses that conventional wedding photography offers and instead provides natural photos with genuine emotions and narrative.

Now, some people would argue that this is called Documentary Wedding Photography, however, there is a slight difference: Lifestyle Wedding Photography takes the best of both worlds and combines them so a good Lifestyle Wedding Photographer such as myself, will not only create those natural candid moments for you but also create the formal photos that you want as well. I mean after all, those photos are still important - it's just that the days of lining up for endless different combinations of traditional group photos that nobody wants to be stood waiting around for (except for Mum or Nan!) are beginning to fizzle out - and, thank Gawd for that! With this in mind, I still recommend doing a handful with immediate family, and if you're one of those people who want a million group photos then that's fine as well - it's just that I feel my time is better suited to capturing natural, real photos of you and your guests enjoying themselves!

This blog post focuses on Lifestyle Wedding photography, however, you can find out about the different styles of wedding photography that are available and the differences between them here in my blog post entitled choosing your wedding photographer.

So, what is Lifestyle Wedding Photography?

Well, I've kind of covered this above but to elaborate a little, Lifestyle Wedding Photography is all about storytelling. The goal is to document the wedding day as it unfolds naturally, highlighting those real moments and natural emotions, capturing spontaneous interactions, and documenting the true personalities of the bride, groom, and guests. The term 'lifestyle' is banded about loosely and there are lots of different interpretations, but for me, it's a style of photography that I use that allows me creative freedom to capture the true you both uniquely and naturally. That means that I will photograph your day as it naturally unfolds or I will create scenarios that allow those moments to naturally occur so that I can capture them! For instance, I may get you to walk towards each other and hug, or I may get you to laugh at each other by asking you to stare at each other with your most serious face - however we get there, the results that we get will be of natural emotions! I hope that makes some sort of sense!

So why choose a Lifestyle Wedding Photographer?

  • Your wedding photos will be authentic and have genuine emotions that you will feel when you see them! If there's something in the background that's unsightly, then a lifestyle wedding photographer will remove it from the frame whereas a documentary photographer won't.
  • Your wedding will be more relaxed and your guests won't feel like they've been corralled to stand in a line and grin at someone who is shouting 'say cheese'!
  • The story of your wedding will be told timelessly in a beautiful visual narrative that's unique to you and will be treasured for generations to come.
  • Your photographer will have creative freedom allowing them to explore different angles, lighting and framing - thus creating a collection of photos that are more artistic and meaningful to both you and them.

If you're looking for this style of wedding photography, then look no further. Most of my wedding photos are created naturally and if I'm honest, these are the types of photos that I want to create because these are the photos that stand the test of time and for me, have true meaning!

Have a look through my portfolio and see if my style of photos resonates with you and your vision. It's essential that you find someone who makes you feel comfortable and I like to think that this is evident in my work but if you have any doubt, then feel free to read my reviews or drop me an email. Finally, whoever you choose to be your photographer (even if it's not me!), trust their expertise and allow them to capture the day naturally as it flows. The more relaxed you are, the more authentic your photos will be, so just enjoy your day.
